Born in 1929 and raised in Chicago, Illinois, Albertina was one of nine children in a family deeply religious Christian Baptist. His singing career began at age 10 when she and her sister joined the choir of the local church, the West Point Baptist Church, the group designed for children to be aware of the Williams Singers.
